The short version
We collect very little. If you fill in a form, we get what you typed so we can write back. Our host keeps standard server logs. We embed music players and load fonts from third parties, and those see your IP address.
We do not sell your information, we do not run advertising, and we do not build profiles on visitors. Everything below is the detailed version of those three sentences.
Who we are
This site is operated by Stump & Root Films, the narrative arm of Stump & Root Co., based in Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
For anything about this policy, or to ask us to delete what we hold, write to hello@stumpandroot.co.
What we collect
What you give us. When you use a form on this site, we receive your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the message. Depending on which form, we may also receive your company name, the kind of work you are enquiring about, your rough timing, and the craft you practise or want to learn.
What we get automatically. Our host records standard server information including your IP address, browser type, the pages you visited, and the time of your visit. This is ordinary web server logging and we do not use it to identify individuals.
What we do not collect. We do not ask for payment details on this site. We do not collect location beyond what an IP address implies. We do not use tracking pixels or advertising cookies.
Why we use it
To reply to you. That is the main reason, and for most people it is the only one. To keep you posted about the Guild if you asked us to, and to send you the date of the next gathering. To keep the site working and secure, which is what the server logs are for. We do not use what you send for advertising, and we do not use it to train machine learning models.
Our basis for this
Where the law requires us to name a basis, we rely on your consent when you choose to send us a form or ask to hear about the Guild, and on our legitimate interest in operating a secure website and responding to enquiries about our work.
You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us, and we will stop and delete accordingly.
Third parties who see something
Webflow hosts this site and stores form submissions. Their privacy practices govern that, and they are published on their own site.
Google Fonts serves the typefaces on this site, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
Spotify and Apple Music players are embedded on our film pages. If a page with a player loads, those services may set cookies and receive your IP address, whether or not you press play.
Email. Form submissions are forwarded to our email provider so we can read and answer them.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, and we have no advertising partners.
Cookies
We do not set our own analytics or advertising cookies.
Webflow sets a small number of cookies necessary for the site to function. The embedded music players may set their own cookies when a page containing them loads.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though the embedded players may not.
How long we keep things
Form submissions stay in our inbox and in Webflow for as long as the conversation is useful, and we clear out enquiries that went nowhere periodically.
Guild sign-ups stay until you ask to come off the list.
Server logs are retained by our host according to their own schedule.
If you want something deleted sooner, ask, and we will do it.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email us and we will handle it, normally within thirty days.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to object to processing and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We honour those requests regardless of where you are, because it is simpler and fairer than checking.
We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
Children
This site is not directed at children under thirteen and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, the effective date at the top of the page changes with it. Material changes will be obvious rather than buried.
Questions, requests, and corrections all go to
hello@stumpandroot.co, or by post to Stump & Root Films, Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
