Stump & Root Films is the narrative arm of Stump & Root Co. We fund our own work, we shoot with crews who show up for the love of it, and we finish the way a studio would. The first one is a 1930s folk horror short about a man who is offered exactly what he deserves.

You need a film made, and it needs to be good.

Most people looking for a film end up picking between a shop that shoots beautiful footage with nothing underneath it and a shop that costs more than the entire budget. Then you are the one who has to defend the result to everybody who signed off on it.

We know that spot, because we finance our own films and every one of those calls has been made with our own money on the line. During the week we make brand films and photography for manufacturers and trades companies through Stump & Root Co., so a deadline and a budget are not new information to us.

The alternative is another film nobody finishes watching, and a line item you have to justify again next year.

04 · Where the name comes from

A shoot shall come up from the stump.

Stump & Root Co. grew out of that root, making brand films and photography for family businesses in Lancaster County. The film work is the shoot coming up out of it. Same stump, two things growing, and the word shoot happens to mean both.
